John O'Hanlon

John O'Hanlon is a Conservation Scientist specializing in Conservation Physiology and Reproduction at Chester Zoo since September 2017. This role involves supporting conservation breeding and management through hormone analysis and assessing animal physiology related to reproduction and wellbeing. John collaborates with the veterinary department to test the zoo's Asian Elephant herd for Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV), enhancing the early warning system for pathogen detection. In addition, John serves as a BIAZA Research Committee Member since April 2024. Academic qualifications include an MSc in Molecular Biology of Parasites and Disease Vectors from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Liverpool John Moores University.
