Anthony Underwood has a diverse work experience in bioinformatics and computational science. Anthony is currently serving as the Head of Bioinformatics at Broken String Biosciences Ltd since 2022. Previously, they worked at The Centre for Genomic Pathogen Surveillance as the Head of Translational and Operational Bioinformatics, implementing bioinformatics pipelines for public health benefit. Anthony also served as the Bioinformatics Implementation Manager at the same organization. Before that, they worked at Inivata as the Lead Computational Scientist and at Public Health England as the Lead for Bioinformatics and as a Bioinformatician, where they developed bioinformatics tools and managed a team of staff. Anthony started their career as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Liverpool University.
Anthony Underwood obtained their B.Sc. degree in Microbiology from the University of Bristol, where they attended from 1988 to 1991. Anthony then pursued a Ph.D. in Molecular Infectious Diseases at the University of Oxford, completing their studies from 1991 to 1995. Later, from 2007 to 2010, they earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Bioinformatics from The University of Manchester.
