Heather Flaherty

Heather Flaherty has extensive experience in education, particularly in roles focused on teaching English and supporting bilingual learners. Currently, Flaherty serves as a Fulbright Scholar and English Teaching Assistant in Fulbright Colombia since July 2016, following a tenure as an ELL Teacher and Coordinator at Brooke Charter Schools from July 2018. Previous positions include 3rd Grade Lead Teacher at Explore Schools, 2nd Grade Lead Teacher and 4th Grade Teacher at Metropolitan Lighthouse Charter School, and participation as a Corps Member in Teach For America. Flaherty also coordinated the D.C. Schools Project 1-2-1 Program at Georgetown University, overseeing tutor recruitment and training. Early experience includes providing English language tutoring for bilingual students through a program at Georgetown’s Center for Social Justice. Flaherty's work emphasizes culturally responsive teaching and meeting the academic needs of diverse classrooms.
