Hector Morales

Hector Morales has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of music education. Hector has worked as a lead professional development facilitator for music education at universities, music education conferences, and public schools since 2006. Hector has also conducted Afro-Peruvian percussion master classes and workshops at universities since 2005.

In 2006, Morales became a teaching artist at Marquis Studios, where they taught percussion residencies from different world traditions at over 30 public schools. One of their classes was even selected to perform at the Social Studies Expo 2007 organized by New York's Board of Education.

Morales then went on to work as a teaching artist at Arts Horizons in 2008, teaching percussion and music at the Artist/Teacher Institute and offering immersive workshops in the performing, visual, literary, and digital arts. Hector also worked as a teaching artist at Brooklyn Academy of Music starting in 2006 and Park Avenue Armory starting in 2010.

Additionally, Morales has been an Afro-Peruvian percussion instructor for kids and adults at Pachamama Peruvian Arts since 2004. Hector is also a committee member since its inception. Pachamama Peruvian Arts offers free classes on traditional Peruvian music and dance to over 1000 students weekly.

Morales has further contributed to music education as a teaching artist at City Lore since 2010. There, they have taught residencies on percussion from different world traditions at more than 5 public schools and conducted professional development workshops.

Lastly, Morales has experience as a composer and songwriter, working under their own name since 1999. This role continued until 2015. Overall, their work experience reflects a strong passion and dedication to music education and the preservation of traditional Peruvian music and dance.

Hector Morales attended the William Paterson University of New Jersey from 1999 to 2003, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance. Prior to that, from 1993 to 1995, they attended the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica del Peru. No degree or field of study is provided for their time at the conservatory.
