Nolan W. Kurtz

Nolan W. Kurtz is the firm's Chief Operating Officer. He manages the firm's day-to-day business operations and oversees the implementation of the firm's strategic plan. He works closely with the CEO and Executive Shareholders in developing, executing and monitoring the firm's business objectives and overall goals.

Nolan oversees the firm's administrative operations including finance, human resources, information technology, communications, client relations, professional development, recruiting and facilities. He also supervises the firm's practice directors and assists the firm's section chairs and practice group leaders with business planning.

Prior to becoming the firm's Chief Operating Officer, Nolan provided government relations services to clients with a particular focus on information technology procurement and Pennsylvania's emerging gaming industry. Nolan's detailed knowledge of the procurement process also benefited clients with specific Pennsylvania procurement issues. In 2005, Nolan was recognized by PoliticsPA as one of Pennsylvania's "Most Effective Lobbyists Under the Age of 40."

Prior to joining the firm, Nolan served as the deputy secretary for administration in the Pennsylvania Department of State. He directed the agency's administrative support offices of information technology, human resources, budget and contracting, and oversaw the activities of the Corporation Bureau. In this capacity, he directed the agency's electronic government initiatives in the areas of business registration, professional licensure, voter registration, campaign finance and on-line voting. Additionally, Governor Ridge appointed Nolan to serve as the chairman of Pennsylvania Open for Business, an initiative to streamline the process of registering a business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania via the Internet.

Prior to his appointment in the Department of State, Nolan served as a member of Governor Ridge's senior staff as the director of scheduling. He coordinated the governor's daily schedule and developed a strategic process to effectively maximize the governor's time. During his tenure, he oversaw the planning of 2,400 gubernatorial events and meetings.

Nolan first served the Ridge administration in the Public Liaison Office, where he organized grassroots coalitions in support of the governor's legislative agenda in the areas of crime, education reform, workers' compensation reform and business tax cuts.

Nolan served as the Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board of the Murata Business Center, a business incubator in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, serving the needs of entrepreneurs and start-ups in the central part of the state. In this capacity, he worked on behalf of small and emerging businesses to ensure that they have the operating capital necessary to sustain and grow their business in Pennsylvania.

Nolan also served on the Vision of Hope Advisory Council having been appointed by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR). The council raises and directs funding to support critical research and strategies to protect children and youth from the devastation of child sexual abuse.

Nolan is a native of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. While working for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he participated in Duke University's Leadership Development for State Executives program. Nolan is also a graduate of Leadership Harrisburg Area, a nine-month leadership development training program for community leaders.
