Leigh D. Espy

History Initiative Manager at Bureau of Land Management

Leigh D. Espy currently serves as the History Initiative Manager at the Bureau of Land Management since July 2008, focusing on educating the public and employees about the agency's historical significance in managing public lands. Previous roles include Deputy State Director for Support Services, overseeing critical organizational functions, and Acting National Mitigation Lead, where responsibility included implementing the Bureau's mitigation policy. With extensive experience in managing natural resources, fire management, and diverse programs at the BLM, as well as a background as Chief of Staff at NOAA Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Assistant Division Manager at the WA Department of Natural Resources, Espy has demonstrated expertise in policy implementation and organizational leadership. Espy holds a PhD in Public Affairs from the University of Colorado Denver and various degrees in Marine Policy and History.
