Amanda H. Sargent is a Member and Associate General Counsel at Burns White. Experienced in a diverse range of legal matters, Ms. Sargent has represented a wide range of clients, including individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations from a variety of industries, in the areas of transportation law, business law, and general litigation.

Ms. Sargent concentrates her practice on transportation law and railroad/maritime litigation matters, with an emphasis in occupational disease claims and toxic tort litigation under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA) and the Jones Act. She also advises companies in various industries on product distribution and products liability matters, as well as on risk management tactics, risk avoidance techniques, and regulatory compliance issues related to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Surface Transportation Board (STB), the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), and the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB).

In addition, Ms. Sargent counsels clients on general business matters, including business contracts, entity formation, and business disputes, with a particular interest in counseling women-owned businesses.

An active participant in firm activities, Ms. Sargent is a member of the firm’s Mentoring Committee, aiding in the professional development of attorneys within the firm, as well as the Women’s Group, which focuses on issues critical to women practitioners. In addition, she helps coordinate pro bono service activities on behalf of Burns White, and assists in firm recruitment by participating in on-campus interviews and mock interviews of law students.

Ms. Sargent received her Juris Doctor in 2000 from the Duquesne University School of Law and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business and Spanish from Illinois State University in 1996.

Ms. Sargent is a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA). At ACBA, she is a member of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. She also provides pro bono legal services through her work with Neighborhood Legal Services.
