Maria Arruda has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Maria began their career as a Trainee at Radio Seinajoki in 1991 and later worked as a Journalist at Sanomalehti Etela-Pohjanmaa. In 1995, they became a Locum Editor for the personnel magazine at Telecom Finland and transitioned into the role permanently in 1999. From 1999 to 2004, Maria worked as the Editor in Chief of the Intranet at Sonera, where they were responsible for content production and coordination. Maria then joined TeliaSonera as a Communications Manager, focusing on internal communication and strategic projects. In 2005, Maria worked as a Journalist and Managing Editor at Edita Publishing, where they contributed to various client magazines.

Maria's career then took their to Invest in Finland, where they held multiple roles. From 2006 to 2009, they worked as a Communications Manager, responsible for developing new communications tools and organizing international events. Maria then became the Director of Marketing Communications, leading the marketing team and focusing on developing marketing strategies for international companies. In 2014, Maria joined Finpro as a Marketing Manager, where they primarily focused on marketing and communications for the health sector. Following the merger with Business Finland, they continued working there as a Media and Communications Manager before assuming their current role as the Head of Communications in March 2022.

Maria Arruda has a diverse education history. Maria obtained their Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in Social Work from the University of Helsinki in 2019. Prior to that, they completed a Masters Degree in Social Sciences with a focus on Journalism from the University of Tampere between 1991 and 1997. Maria also pursued a Bachelor's degree/ Kandidatuppsats in Media and Communication Sciences at Stockholm University from 1993 to 1994. Additionally, they completed a Diploma de Español avansado at Instituto Angloamericano, Ciudad de México in 1998-1999. Maria's education also includes receiving a Matriculation Examination Certificate from Seinäjoki Upper Secondary School in 1991.
