Michael Barry, JD, CIPP, CCEP has extensive work experience in the legal and compliance field. Michael is currently the Head of Legal and Compliance at Business Wire starting from March 2023. Previously, they worked as a Senior Counsel at AgileOne from May 2022 to March 2023. Prior to that, they held the position of Director of Compliance, Corporate Counsel & Privacy Officer at Connexion Point (cXp) from August 2019 to April 2022. Michael also has experience as an Attorney and Consultant at M.P. Barry Law and Consulting, PC from April 2016 to July 2019, where they provided legal advice to corporations and law firms. Throughout their career, they have authored various articles on regulatory topics and served in roles such as Director of Compliance & Regulatory Affairs at Steward Healthcare, Associate General Counsel II at Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, Chief Compliance Officer, Data Privacy Officer, and Associate General Counsel at Deseret Mutual, and Executive Director and General Counsel at Utah Health Plans. Michael began their career as an Analyst at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Michael obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies with a minor in Portuguese, graduating Cum Laude from Brigham Young University. Michael participated in the International law program in Madrid, Spain, at William & Mary Law School. Michael later attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, where they earned a Doctor of Law (JD) degree with a focus on International Law.

In addition to their formal education, Michael Barry has obtained several certifications. In 2018, they completed a course on "IT Security: Key Policies and Resources" at LinkedIn. Michael became a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) in 2016 through the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals. Michael holds Bar licenses in Utah (obtained in October 2003), Missouri (obtained in October 1998), and Colorado (obtained in October 1997).
