Willem-Jan Karstens

Willem-Jan Karstens is a highly experienced scientist with a strong background in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. Currently serving as Principal Scientist at Byondis since April 2020, Karstens previously held the same title at Synthon from April 2014 to April 2020. Prior experience includes a Post Doctoral Researcher role at Radboud University Nijmegen, where Karstens focused on compound library design and validation of novel scaffolds, and ownership of Karstens Scientific Consultancy, providing expert consultancy in chemistry and multidisciplinary drug discovery projects. Additional notable positions include Senior Research Scientist and Team Leader at MSD, and Senior Research Scientist roles at Schering-Plough and Organon. Karstens holds a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Amsterdam and an MsC in Organic Chemistry from Leiden University.
