A.J. van de Ven has held a variety of positions in the water management industry. From 2005 to 2018, they served as Chief Executive Officer, President, and Embedded Software Engineer at Calsense, a company that specializes in irrigation controllers, water and labor saving accessories, and advanced water management software. During their time there, they worked on a team of engineers to design and develop industry-leading firmware and software solutions, developed a high-transaction TCP server to provide real-time evapotranspiration and rain data, and developed firmware for Calsense's flagship CS3000 irrigation controller. In 2018, they began working as a Lecturer at CSUSM Extended Learning, teaching Environmental Issues, Policies and Regulations for Water Managers.
A.J. van de Ven attended California State University San Marcos from 1999 to 2004, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business Adminstration - High Technology Management; Computer Science. A.J. also attended California State University San Marcos from 2022 to 2023 for Leadership North County. Additionally, A.J. van de Ven obtained a Certificate in Water Resource Management & Leadership from CSUSM Extended Learning in August 2018 and a Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper from the San Diego County Water Authority in November 2016.
