Thanuja de Mel has worked in the engineering field since 2018. In 2018, they worked as a Mechatronics Engineering Intern at GPC Electronics, where they programmed Yamaha SMT pick and place machines, developed process control plans and safe operating procedure documentation, and PLC programming. In 2019, they joined Calumino as a Senior Applications and IoT Engineer, Product and Applications Engineer (Mechatronics), and Applications/Mechatronics Engineering Subcontractor. In these roles, they assisted the CEO, CIO and CTO with the company's technology development, research and development, and management of IoT and IT infrastructure. Thanuja also worked on product development and tamper-proofing IoT devices, as well as Linux environment manipulation and code obfuscation.
Thanuja de Mel received their Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation Engineering from Macquarie University between 2015 and 2019. Prior to this, they obtained a Diploma in Engineering from Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT) between 2014 and 2015 and a Certificate IV in Engineering from Australian College of Business and Technology between 2013 and 2014. Her education history dates back to 2001 when they attended Lyceum International School, Sri Lanka in the Science stream. In 2021, they obtained a certification in Video Analytics using OpenCV and Python Shells from Udemy.
