Tom Carter has a wide range of work experience in the publishing industry. Tom started their career as a Translator/Editor at Conseco Press in 2002 and worked there until 2003. Tom then joined the London School of Economics as an Assistant Manager from 2004 to 2009. In 2010, they worked as an Assistant Manager at ProQuest for a short period. In 2012, they became a Project Editor at John Wiley and Sons until 2014. From 2014 to 2017, they worked as a Commissioning Editor at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, and then was promoted to the role of Senior Commissioning Editor from 2017 to 2022. Currently, they hold the position of Head of Mathematics Publishing, Schools at Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
Tom Carter has a solid educational background with degrees from multiple reputable institutions. In 1997, they enrolled at the University of Bath and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Modern Languages in 2001. Then, they pursued further studies at UCL, where they completed a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Politics, Security and Integration between 2004 and 2006. Tom demonstrated their commitment to academia by continuing at UCL to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Russian Studies, which they successfully completed in 2015, making him a highly educated individual in their field.
