Charlie Cotton, PhD has a diverse work experience in the field of structural biology and next-generation fermentation methods. From 2016 to 2020, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Society, where they focused on new-to-nature formate assimilation pathways for sustainable bio-production. During this time, they published 9 papers in reputable journals and led a team of scientists for projects related to C1 assimilation. In 2020, Charlie co-founded Cambrium, where they currently serve as the Chief Scientific Officer. at Cambrium, they are involved in rethinking protein-based materials design and the development of next-generation fermentation methods.

Charlie Cotton, PhD, has a strong educational background in the field of biology. From 2008 to 2011, they attended the University of Cambridge where they pursued a BA/MA degree in Natural Sciences, with a focus on Biochemistry in Part II. In 2009, they had a summer placement at the University of Colorado Boulder, specifically in the Plant Department. After completing their undergraduate studies, Charlie went on to pursue further education at Imperial College London. From 2011 to 2012, they obtained a Master of Research degree in Structural Biology. Following that, they successfully completed their Doctorate in Structural/Synthetic Biology, which took place from 2012 to 2015 at the same institution. Charlie Cotton's educational journey reflects their dedication to expanding their knowledge and expertise in the field of biology.
