Jim Wong has a vast and extensive work experience spanning over many years. Jim started their career as a Senior Engineer at Vosaic in 1997. Jim then worked as a Senior Engineer/Technical Lead at VTEL, followed by a Technical Lead position at Onscreen24. In 2000, they became an Architect and Senior Principal Engineer at Atstream Networks.
In 2001, Jim joined Bytemobile as a Principal Engineer and Technical Lead, before moving on to SugarSync in 2006. At SugarSync, they held several roles including Principal Engineer, Manager, and Architect and Director of Platform Engineering. During their time at SugarSync, they built and led the team responsible for the core client-server synchronization framework.
In 2013, Jim worked as a Principal Architect at vLine, and subsequently held various roles at Airtime from 2014 to 2023, including Principal Architect, Director of Engineering, Senior Director of Engineering, and Vice President of Engineering, Media. During their tenure at Airtime, they played a crucial role in building and launching their real-time audio and video capabilities.
Most recently, Jim worked at Aircore as the Vice President of Engineering, overseeing the launch of their first production service offerings. Currently, they hold the position of Vice President of Engineering at Cantina, where they are responsible for building the real-time audio and video infrastructure for the Cantina app.
Jim Wong attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy from 1987 to 1990 for their high school education. Following that, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Rice University, which they completed between 1990 and 1994. Jim furthered their education by obtaining a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they studied from 1994 to 1996.
