Carbon Capture Manager at Capital Power

Derek Ebeling has a variety of work experience in the engineering and energy sectors. Derek began their career in 2011 as a Design Engineering Summer Student at Athabasca Oil Corporation, where they provided CADD services and supported the development of thermal recovery technology. In 2012, they worked as an Engineering Trainee at Alstom Power, focusing on turbine cooling and validation through computational techniques.

From 2014 to 2015, Derek worked as a Project Engineer at Custom Upstream Engineering Inc., where they provided project engineering support on various oil and gas projects, including well tie-ins, satellite construction, and pipelines. Derek then became a candidate in the CFA Program, passing all three levels on the first attempt.

In 2017, Derek joined Site Resource Group as a Project Engineer, overseeing the construction of a pump station for the Enbridge Line 3 Replacement Project. Derek managed budgets, estimations, scheduling, and procurement activities.

Since 2018, Derek has been working at Capital Power. Derek started as an Energy Management Engineer, responsible for the commercial and energy management of the company's power generation assets. Derek then served as a Commercial Manager, focusing on clean technologies and deep decarbonization initiatives at the Genesee Generating Station. Currently, they hold the position of Carbon Capture Manager, leading a cross-functional team in the development and evaluation of low-carbon projects, particularly the Genesee CCS project.

Overall, Derek's work experience demonstrates their expertise in project management, commercial initiatives, engineering, and the energy industry.

Derek Ebeling obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary, where they studied from 2009 to 2014. In 2014, they also received the certification of E.I.T. from The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). In addition, Derek passed the CFA Level 1 exam in 2015, the CFA Level 2 exam in 2016, and the CFA Level 3 exam in 2017.
