Ryan Hannum

Ryan Hannum has a diverse work experience in various roles related to research operations and biology. Ryan currently works as a Research Operations Specialist II at NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. Prior to this, they held the role of Biologist 2 and Biologist 1 at Moody Gardens®, where they were involved in routine duties such as feeding, display design, and water chemistry analysis. Ryan also worked on the Florida Coral Reef Tract Rescue Project, focusing on the preservation and conservation of endemic Florida corals. Ryan gained experience as a Fish Husbandry Volunteer at the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Hatfield Marine Science Center, where they performed maintenance tasks, assisted in medical procedures, and conducted educational tours. Ryan also worked as a Coaching Staff member at Willamalane Swim Club, a Petcare Associate at PetSmart, and a Swim Instructor and Lifeguard at Willamalane Parks and Recreation. Additionally, they volunteered as a Lab Assistant at Oregon State University, assisting in seed viability counts and field sampling.

Ryan Hannum completed a Certificate Degree in Aquarium Science at Oregon Coast Community College from 2014 to 2015. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from Oregon State University, where they studied from 2010 to 2013.

In addition to their formal education, Ryan has obtained several certifications. Ryan completed a Certificate for completing Operant Conditioning and Behavior Management (R) from CypherWorx in December 2020. In 2019, they obtained a Certificate for completing Animal Welfare Professional and a Certificate for completing Zoonotic Disease and Biosecurtiy (PS) from CypherWorx. In 2014, they obtained The Experimental Fish: Institutional Aquatic Animal User Training certification from the Canadian Aquaculture Institute. Prior to their university education, they obtained an Advanced Open Water Diving Certification from Eugene Skin Divers Supply in 2009, as well as an Oregon Boater Education certification from the Oregon State Marine Board in the same year. In 2014, Ryan also obtained an Aquatic Animal Life Support Operator Level One certification from Aquatic Animal Life Support Operators. Later, in 2015, they obtained a Diving First Aid for Professional Divers certification from Divers Alert Network.
