Dr. Deirdre Craven is from Massachusetts, attended undergrad at Wake Forest University and then attended vet school at Tufts University. Her first vet job was working in kennels and volunteering at small local shelters throughout middle school and high school. She also started mucking stalls when she was 12 in an attempt to prove to her parents that she needed a horse. Dr. Craven chose Care First because she likes the busy atmosphere and the opportunities to give back to the community.
When Dr. Craven had first started at Care First a stray kitten with a broken leg was brought in by a good Samaritan. Dr. Craven worked tirelessly splinting the kitten’s leg to help save it. Unfortunately, due to the age and extensiveness of the injury, the leg had to be amputated. Fortunately, because Dr. Craven spent a great deal of time with this newly 3-legged kitten she had fallen in love and took her home as a friend to her 9-year-old Golden retriever named Bradaigh. Outside of work, she enjoys running and hiking with her dog, riding horses, skiing, reading and trying all the new restaurants in the Raleigh area. She has also run 4 marathons and raised money for the Boston Medical Center in the process.
