As Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. David Williams leads and executes CareSource’s clinical vision and strategy to ensure member needs are met across the full continuum of care. Using a comprehensive physical, behavioral, social and pharmaceutical framework, he positions the organization to enhance the care and support of members with a focus on complex populations.
With more than 20 years of experience in putting patients and consumers first, Dr. Williams has ensured quality adherence and compliance for managed care organizations.
Prior to joining CareSource, Dr. Williams held the role of Chief Medical Officer for Optum’s Enterprise Clinical Services where he built market-level partnerships to advance high quality and affordable health care to consumers. He also held several roles at UnitedHealthcare including Chief Medical Officer for UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Mississippi where he provided clinical oversight for Medicaid, CHIP, and DSNP programs and the carve-in approach for inpatient care.
With his extensive medical background and expertise in value-based care, he is a highly decorated clinician who is often sought after as a guest lecturer at national conferences. During his career, he has been a proactive contributor on several task forces in Mississippi including maternal and infant health and clinical competency to positively impact outcomes in an area with historically low results.
A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Williams earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Tougaloo College, master’s degree in chemistry from Jackson State University and doctor of medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is a member of many professional societies including the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the National Medical Association.
