Joyalea’s captivation with seaweed brought her to the west coast of Vancouver Island where she supports the growth of kelp seed at Cascadia’s nursery. She is driven by the desire to understand evolutionary relationships and why ice cream is so good. She holds a BScA from Quest University where she studied how humans perceive and relate to the nonhuman. In cultivating seaweed she hopes to learn more about how food can connect people to place and bring attention to underseen ecosystems.
