James F. Maruna is a partner in the firm's Chicago office. A cum laude, graduate of DePaul University College of Law, Jimmy concentrates his practice on civil rights litigation, insurance coverage and construction, and has experience defending products liability actions, transportation matters, and catastrophic trucking litigation. Jimmy has briefed, argued and won numerous dispositive motions in both federal and state court for his clients in the practice areas of civil rights litigation, construction, and medical malpractice. Because not every case can be won at summary judgment or through trial, Jimmy has also successfully negotiated and crafted complex settlement agreements for his clients at both private mediation and federal settlement conferences. Beyond his litigation experience, Jimmy works with the firm’s appellate practice with clients seeking him out to brief and argue complex legal issues in Federal and State Appellate Courts, particularly in the areas of construction liability and civil rights. Judges and other attorneys in Illinois and around the Country frequently cite to cases that Jimmy argued and won for his clients on appeal. Beyond the work that he does on his clients’ behalf, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) also asked Jimmy to draft the Commercial General Liability Policy chapter in the 2015 and 2020 editions of Illinois Insurance Law.
