Sara Brownlie has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Starting in 1995, they worked at the Department of Internal Affairs, holding positions such as Corporate Finance Manager and Contract Accountant. In 2002, they joined the Ministry of Justice NZ, where they took on multiple secondment roles, including Business Readiness Project Manager and Chief Financial Officer. From 2010 to 2016, they served as the Chief Financial Officer for Central Agencies Shared Services at the New Zealand Treasury, State Services Commission, and Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. In 2016, they became the Managing Director at Fargher Woods Limited, providing strategic finance and program/project management services. Sara held various positions at other companies, including Voco, REANNZ Ltd., Catalyst IT Limited, and Let's Get Wellington Moving. Sara also served as an Independent Member of the Risk and Assurance Committee at the Upper Hutt City Council.
Sara Brownlie started their education at Waimea College from 1984 to 1990. During this time, they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study. In 1990, they attended Victoria University of Wellington and completed a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy until 1992. Afterward, they joined the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1995 to obtain a Chartered Accountant qualification. In 2013, Sara enrolled in the CPA Australia Program and became a Fellow. Additionally, they became a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand in 2016, specializing in the field of Directorship.
