Michael R. Shaffer

Michael R. Shaffer, P.E. is a seasoned engineer specializing in process safety and operations integrity, currently serving as a Senior Process Safety Engineer at Cenovus Energy since May 2022. Previously, Michael held several key roles at BP from 2011 to 2019, including Senior On-site and Process Safety Engineer, where responsibilities encompassed risk management, process safety studies, and the supervision of diverse teams focused on process safety for major production assets in North Slope Alaska. Prior to that, Michael worked at ExxonMobil, overseeing compliance with hazardous waste regulations and serving as an Operations Integrity Management System Coordinator. Michael's extensive experience further includes project management and environmental engineering roles at various organizations, starting from a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician role in 1982. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Montana Technological University and a Bachelor of Technology in Diesel Mechanics Technology from Montana State University-Northern.
