Sara Outterson has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and organizations. Sara is currently employed as the Chief Federal Legislative Counsel at the Center for Reproductive Rights, a position they have held since September 2021. Prior to their current role, Sara worked as the Senior Federal Legislative Counsel at the same organization from September 2018 to September 2021.

Before joining the Center for Reproductive Rights, Sara held several positions at the U.S. House of Representatives. These include Deputy Chief of Staff from March 2018 to September 2018, Washington/Legislative Director from February 2015 to March 2018, Legislative Counsel from January 2013 to February 2015, Legislative Assistant from June 2011 to January 2013, Legislative Assistant from April 2010 to June 2011, and Legislative Correspondent from March 2009 to April 2010.

Sara's previous work experience also includes serving as the Assistant Voter Protection Coordinator at Pennsylvania for Change in October 2008, and working as a Law Clerk at the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division from September 2007 to September 2008. Sara interned at the Federal Public Defender in May 2006 to August 2006, and worked as a Research Assistant at William & Mary Law School in May 2005 to August 2005.

Sara's early professional experience was as a Teacher at Teach For America from June 2002 to June 2004.

Sara Outterson completed their Bachelor of Arts in History from The George Washington University, spanning from 1998 to 2002. Subsequently, they pursued their law degree and completed their Doctor of Law (JD) from William & Mary Law School, graduating between 2004 and 2007.
