Joel Friedman is the Vice President of Federal Fiscal Policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities since September 2012. Previously, Friedman served as Deputy Staff Director for the US Senate Budget Committee from December 2006 to September 2012, and as a Senior Fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities from September 2000 to December 2006. Experience also includes a role as a Resident Advisor to the South African Ministry of Finance at the US Department of the Treasury from December 1996 to August 2000, and positions in the US House Budget Committee, including Director of Budget Analysis and Deputy Director of Budget Priorities, from June 1991 to November 1996. Friedman's career began as a Financial Economist at the Office of Management and Budget from August 1987 to June 1991. Academic qualifications include a BA in International Relations from Pomona College and an MPA in International Affairs from Princeton University.
