John G. Halstead

John G. Halstead is currently serving as a Research Scholar at the Centre for the Governance of AI (GovAI) since February 2024. Prior to this role, John worked as a Researcher for general from September 2022 to February 2024, and as a Research Fellow at the Forethought Foundation for Global Priorities Research from January 2021 to August 2022. John also held the position of Head of Applied Research at Founders Pledge from June 2017 to December 2020, where leadership of a team of five researchers and overseeing the overall research strategy was key. Additionally, John contributed as a Research Fellow at the Global Priorities Project, where major reports on existential risk and global catastrophic risks were authored. Teaching experience includes leading a seminar in political philosophy at the Blavatnik School of Government. John’s early career involved roles in operations management at Politeia and research internships at Animal Charity Evaluators. Academically, John completed a DPhil in Politics at the University of Oxford and a First Class BA (Hons) in Economics and Politics at the University of York.
