Lei Zhou has worked in the research field since 2003. In 2007, they began as a Research Assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where they designed and synthesized small molecules, purified them by flash column chromatography and HPLC, and characterized them with NMR, UV/Vis, FTIR, and HRMS. Lei also developed and applied novel photolabile protecting groups (PPGs) and studied new methodology and quantum yields. In 2012, they moved to The University of Texas at Austin as a Research Scholar, where they worked on pharmaceutical formulation development and optimization, using analytical techniques such as dissolution testing, HPLC, GC, X-ray diffraction, laser light diffraction, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and TLC. From 2015 to 2018, Lei Zhou worked as a Research Analyst at Beijing Hotgen Biotech Co., Ltd, where they designed and synthesized small photo-sensitive molecules, purified them with column chromatography and HPLC, and characterized them with NMR (1H, 13C; 1-D, 2-D), FTIR, UV/Vis, HRMS, etc. Lei also extracted and cleaned relevant data, and wrote efficient SQL queries to analyze datasets from diagnostic kits. Finally, Lei Zhou began their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Science and Technology of China, where they used analytical techniques such as FTIR, UV/Vis, MS and NMR.
Lei Zhou's education history includes a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemistry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2007 to 2011, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemical Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China from 2003 to 2007, and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Management Science from the University of Science and Technology of China from 2003 to 2007. Additionally, Lei Zhou is currently enrolled in a Data Science program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
