Stefan Deaconu

Stefan Deaconu has extensive experience in international arbitration and legal consultancy. Currently serving as the President of the Court of International Commercial Arbitration at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania since September 2015, Stefan also holds the position of Managing Partner at LEAUA DAMCALI DEACONU PAUNESCU - LDDP since August 2012. Stefan's role as an ICSID Arbitrator at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes commenced in May 2024, alongside being an arbitrator for the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission since May 2017, and for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova since January 2020. As a Professor PhD at the University of Bucharest since October 1998, Stefan combines academic expertise with practical experience, including previous leadership roles such as President of the ICC Arbitration Commission from 2016 to 2018, Senior Advisor on Legal Issues to the President of Romania from February 2005 to July 2012, and Director at the Romanian Senate from October 1998 to February 2005. Education was completed at the University of Bucharest from 1994 to 1998.
