For most of his professional life, Gilbert Medrano has taken care of buildings. A born “fixer,” he loves to tinker with engines and figure out how things work. It’s a skill that comes in handy when you are an operations assistant for an 86-year-old building filled with a variety of tenants, including the Mott Foundation. But it’s the people who work in the building that make his job a real pleasure, he says. A Michigan native, Medrano’s family moved to Flint when he was 7 years old, to be closer to extended family. Before joining the staff of the Mott Foundation, where he’s worked for the past 17 years, he was employed by the Mott Children’s Health Center in Flint.
