Ricky Young

Ricky Young is an experienced news editor currently serving at Chattanooga Times Free Press since March 2020. Prior to this, Ricky held the position of Digital & Investigative Editor at The San Diego Union Tribune from 2008 to 2020, where leadership in digital initiatives significantly increased subscription numbers, and oversight included podcasts and analytics. At the Tennessean from 2004 to 2007, Ricky directed a team of reporters and columnists while spearheading investigations that led to major reforms in the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Earlier roles include County Editor at the Orange County Register, where investigative work revealed significant flaws in highway safety management, and Night City Editor at The Denver Post. Ricky’s journalism career began as a Transportation Reporter at the Orange County Register, where early investigative efforts addressed critical public safety issues. Ricky earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Northwestern University.
