Matthew Hootman

Matthew Hootman has worked in various software engineering roles over the years. Matthew is currently employed at Checkr, Inc. as a Software Engineer, where they are involved in full stack development using Ruby, Rails/Sinatra, ReactJS, and TypeScript. Matthew has experience working with databases like Postgresql, MySQL, and Snowflake, as well as utilizing Gitlab for source control and CI/CD.

Prior to their current position, Matthew served as a Senior Software Engineer at Sizmek by Amazon in 2015. Before that, they worked at RoyaltyZone as a Software Engineer from 2014 to 2015.

Matthew's career started at Cerner Corporation in 2009 as a Software Engineer. During their time there, they worked on multiple websites and used technologies such as Java, Jive, Confluence, Python, and Django. Matthew focused on enhancing internal social media and knowledge sharing sites, as well as creating an EHR website and wellness incentive website.

Before entering the software engineering field, Matthew served as an Arabic Linguist in the US Army from 1998 to 2006.

Matthew Hootman completed their education at the University of Iowa from 2006 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science. Prior to that, in 1998-1999, they attended the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and obtained a Certificate in Modern Standard Arabic.
