Meredith Gillespie

Genetic Counsellor and Project Manager, Genome-wide Sequencing Ontario and Care4Rare at CHEO Research Institute

Meredith Gillespie has extensive experience in the field of genetic counselling and research. Meredith currently works at CHEO as a Genetic Counsellor and at the CHEO Research Institute as a Genetic Counsellor and Project Manager. Prior to this, they were a Genetic Counsellor at The Hospital for Sick Children.

Meredith also has experience in academia, having completed an MSc in Genetic Counselling at the University of Toronto. Meredith also interned as a Genetic Counselling Intern at CHEO, where they provided care and counselling to patients and families in various clinics.

In terms of research, Meredith has worked as a CARE for RARE Research Assistant at the CHEO Research Institute, where they reviewed and approved research proposals and managed patient samples. Meredith also coordinated the Ottawa branch of the CanHSP study.

Additionally, Meredith has experience in customer service and administration. Meredith worked as a Summer Student at the Ontario Disability Support Program, where they provided information and support to clients with disabilities. Meredith also worked as a Student Researcher at the University of Guelph, conducting research on stress and depression in mouse models, and as a Senior Peer Health Educator, providing health and wellness information to students.

Meredith Gillespie completed their Master of Science (MS) in Genetic Counselling/Counsellor at the University of Toronto from 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Honours in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Guelph between 2011 and 2015. Additionally, they obtained certification as a Certified Genetics Counsellor from the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors in August 2020, and as a Certified Genetics Counselor from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) in August 2020.
