Jim McMains has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Jim started their career in 1976 as a Marine Corps Officer and Naval Aviator in the United States Marine Corps, and they served in that role until 1999. Following their military service, they joined the Office of Naval Research in 2001 and held various positions, including Director of ONR 303, Combatting Terrorism and Integration Division, TechSolutions & Experimentation/Analysis, and Navy SBIR Transition Program Business Consultant. In 2018, McMains joined AVIAN, where they worked as an ONR Experimentation/Analysis/TechSolutions expert until their departure. In 2023, they began a new role as a Senior Analyst for ONRG Experimentation & Analysis at Cherokee Federal.
Jim McMains completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, from 1972 to 1976. After that, they attended Naval Flight School from 1977 to 1978, where they obtained the designation of Naval Aviator. During this program, they studied Rotary Wing and Fixed Wing aviation.
