Paul James has a substantial work experience in various government departments in New Zealand. Paul served as the Chief Executive of the Department of Internal Affairs from 2018 to present. Prior to that, they held the same position at the Ministry for Culture and Heritage from 2015 to 2018. Before becoming a Chief Executive, they worked as the Deputy Chief Executive for Policy Regulatory and Ethnic Affairs at the Department of Internal Affairs from 2011 to 2015. Paul'scareer started at the Ministry of Justice, where they served as the Director of the Office of Treaty Settlements from 2006 to 2011.
Paul James earned a Master's Degree in Geography from the University of Canterbury between 1989 and 1993.
