Quan Geng

Quantitative Researcher at Citadel Securities

Quan Geng has a diverse work experience, starting with their current role as a Quantitative Researcher at Citadel Securities since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Facebook as a Software Engineer from 2020 to 2022, where they led the Instagram feed recommendation ML team and successfully built the recommendation system for the Instagram home. This product, called "Suggested Post," significantly increased the topline impressions metrics and had over 300 million daily active users.

Before joining Facebook, Quan was a Software Engineer at Google from 2015 to 2020. During their time there, they focused on large-scale machine learning research and applications at Google AI in New York.

Quan's career in the finance industry began at Tower Research Capital, where they worked as a Quantitative Analyst from 2014 to 2015. Quan also had a previous internship at the same company in 2013.

Quan gained research experience during their time as a PhD researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2009 to 2013. Additionally, they gained valuable industry experience through summer internships at Qualcomm Flarion Technologies in 2011 and at Microsoft Research Asia in 2010.

Quan's career started with a summer student intern position at HKUST in 2008, where they conducted research on multiple protein sequence alignment in the Laboratory for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

Quan Geng's education history is as follows:

Quan Geng obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This took place from 2011 to 2013.

Prior to that, Quan Geng earned a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, which was completed from 2005 to 2009.

During Quan Geng's time at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, they also pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mathematics. This was achieved between 2011 and 2012.

Quan Geng further pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2009 to 2011.

As part of their academic journey, Quan Geng was an exchange student at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 2007 to 2008, where they studied Electronic and Computer Engineering.

In addition to their formal education, Quan Geng also obtained a certification in "Architecting with Google Cloud Platform Specialization" from Coursera in January 2018.
