Michael Pleus, ICMA-CM, has served as City Manager of DeLand since March 2000, overseeing a city with a population of 43,000 and a daytime service population of 80,000, covering approximately 18.6 square miles. Previously, Michael held positions including Assistant City Manager, where notable achievements included the creation of the city's branding initiative "Discover DeLand" and managing the construction of a new city hall. Before joining the City of DeLand, Michael worked for Volusia County Government from January 1995 to December 2000 in various roles, including Director of Administrative Services and Special Projects Coordinator, within a large county with a population exceeding 500,000. Michael holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government, both from Stetson University.
