Fire Captain at City of Grand Rapids

Brian Deforest has been a firefighter for most of their adult life. Brian started out as a Fire Alarm Operator with the Grand Rapids Fire Department in 1990. In this role, they were responsible for dispatching departments and equipment to incidents and providing support services to firefighters. Brian answered emergency phone calls, monitored radio traffic, and interacted with supporting agencies to provide fast and effective emergency service to citizens.

In September 2008, Brian was promoted to Fire Lieutenant with the City of Grand Rapids. In this role, they managed the daily activities of an Engine, Truck, or Squad company in routine and emergency situations. Brian worked under the direction of a Captain and Battalion Chief to meet the goals of the department.

In October 2013, Brian was promoted to Fire Captain with the City of Grand Rapids. In this role, they are responsible for leading a team of firefighters and managing all aspects of fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services. Brian also works closely with other agencies to ensure that the community receives the best possible service.
