Erik began their career in risk management as a Benefits Specialist with the City of Brownsville in 2007. In this role, they managed workers' compensation claims and served as a liaison between the city and its employees. Erik also consulted with claim adjusters and nurse case managers, and presented updates and findings to City management.
In 2010, Erik took a position as a Workers Compensation Claims Specialist with the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool. In this role, they worked with Self-insureds to review, examine, investigate, and monitor assigned workers’ compensation claims. Erik managed large volumes of minor to severe claims, identified subrogation opportunities, and developed strategic plans of action to bring claims to a prompt and equitable conclusion. Erik also worked closely with employers, injured workers, medical providers, and nurse case managers. Erik presented recommendations to management and claims reviews to employers.
Erik has been with the City of Grand Rapids since December 2020. In their current role as Risk Management Assistant, they provide support to the Risk Management team in all areas of risk management, including insurance, safety, and claims administration. Erik also assists with the development and implementation of risk management programs and policies.
Erik Von Hatten has a Texas Workers' Compensation Adjuster License from Kaplan University, a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) from University of Texas at Brownsville, and a Certification from Michigan State SHRLR Executive Education in Certified Workers Compensation Professional. Erik also has a Certification from Texas Department of Insurance in State of Texas Adjuster's License.
