Sam Abernethy Pe

Sam Abernethy, PE is a Civil Engineer currently employed by the City of Hickory since November 2021. Prior to this role, Sam completed a Thru Hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2021 and worked as an Engineering Associate I at McGill Associates, P.A. from May 2018 to January 2021, where responsibilities included assisting with proposals and design drawings. Sam also interned at McGill Associates, P.A. in 2017, gaining exposure to engineering office operations. Earlier experience includes serving as a Ranger for the Philmont Staff Association in 2015, teaching low impact camping methods to Boy Scout Crews. Sam holds a degree from Virginia Tech and graduated from Newton Conover High School.
