Helen Lessick is a distinguished artist and public art activist with a career spanning several decades. Since August 1982, Helen has been self-employed as both an artist and public art consultant, developing programs and policies for contemporary art projects that benefit BIPOC communities. Inglewood Growing Artists Projects (IGAP), initiated by Helen, has led to 28 original art commissions from 2013 to 2024. Additionally, the establishment of Inglewood's Public Art Education website in 2015 showcases public art and architecture across the city. As a principal at Structural Expressionism, Helen has contributed to sculpture and civic art research while providing civic arts policy consulting for municipal clients throughout the U.S. Previous roles include Director of Civic Art + Design at the Houston Arts Alliance and Visual Arts Manager at the King County Arts Commission. Helen holds multiple degrees, including a Master of Fine Arts from UC Irvine and a Bachelor of Arts from Reed College.
