Mariana Valdivia has a diverse work experience in the public sector, with a focus on urban planning and transportation. Mariana began their career at the Office of Mayor Riordon as a Mayoral Aide in 1999. From there, they worked at Los Angeles Metro as a Transportation Planner until 2001. Mariana then joined Los Angeles City Planning, starting as a City Planning Assistant, and later progressing to the role of City Planning Associate until 2013. During this time, they also worked at Los Angeles World Airports as a City Planner from 2013 to 2016. Mariana then joined Los Angeles City Planning again as a City Planner before transitioning to LADOT, where they held the positions of Supervising Transportation Planner from 2017 to 2022 and Chief of Transit Programs from 2022 to 2023. Currently, they are working at the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks as the Chief Management Analyst, overseeing sustainability projects and policies, managing the Partnerships Division, and serving as the department's chief sustainability officer.
Mariana Valdivia attended the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, where they completed an Executive Education program focused on The Southern California Symposium: New Strategies for the Region's Future. Mariana also pursued a Transit and Paratransit Management Certificate Program at the University of the Pacific. Additionally, Mariana obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from UCLA. Their undergraduate studies were undertaken at Loyola Marymount University, where they earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Business Administration and Management.
