Barbara Salvini joined the City of Newport Beach management team in October 2015, bringing a myriad of experience to the Human Resources Department. As human resources director, Barbara oversees employee relations, benefits, recruitment and selection, labor relations and risk management. Her department strives to provide professional customer service and support to the City Council, Civil Service Board, City departments, employees and the public. Her team is committed to hiring capable, versatile and highly-qualified talent for the organization, while adhering to budgetary parameters.
Prior to joining Newport Beach, Barbara served the full-service City of Laguna Beach for over 10 years as the City’s personnel services and risk manager. She provided direction and support to all City departments. She served as the City’s consultant and advisor on the complete spectrum of personnel and risk issues, and was the lead City representative in all labor negotiations.
In addition to her human resources and risk management experience, Barbara is an attorney. She practiced in Orange County as an associate attorney specializing in medical malpractice for over ten years before she began her public service. Prior to becoming an attorney, she worked as a Registered Nurse.
Barbara holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing from Binghamton University and a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law.
