Jay Virata, MPA, MRED, is currently serving as the Community & Economic Development Director for the City of Palm Springs. Prior to this role, Jay held the position of Economic Development Manager for the City of Poway from 2013 to 2017. From 2001 to 2012, they worked for the City of Los Angeles as the Community Redevelopment Agency - Regional Administrator and later as the Director of Asset Management, Budgets & Capital Finance. Jay began their career in 1994 as an Economic Development/Redevelopment Project Manager for the City of Monterey Park.
Jay Virata holds a Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) degree from the University of Southern California, with a focus on Real Estate Development. Jay also earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from California State University, Long Beach, specializing in Public Administration. Prior to their postgraduate studies, Jay completed their undergraduate education at UCLA, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Sociology. Additionally, they obtained a certificate in Leadership from the California State University San Marcos' Leadership North County Program. Furthermore, Jay expanded their expertise in Real Estate Investment by completing a certificate program at UCLA Extension. Jay also obtained a certificate in Public Management Analysis from California State University, Long Beach. Jay's educational journey began at Morse High School in San Diego, California.
