Joseph Tumminelli has a diverse work experience in the field of law enforcement. Joseph started their career as a Correctional Officer at the Florida Department of Corrections in 1995 and worked there until 1997. In 1997, they joined the City of Stuart Police Department and held various positions throughout their years of service. Joseph served as a Police Officer from 1997 to 2007, then as a Police Sergeant from 2007 to 2014. Joseph was promoted to the role of Police Captain in 2014 and held that position until May 2018. From May 2018 to October 2018, Tumminelli worked as the Interim Chief of Police before being officially appointed as the Chief of Police in October 2018.

Joseph Tumminelli's education history includes multiple degrees and fields of study. Joseph attended Indian River State College from 1996 to 1997, where they obtained an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Corrections. Later, from 2014 to 2016, Tumminelli enrolled at the University of Phoenix, earning a degree in Criminal Justice Administration.

Continuing their academic pursuits, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business Administration and Management, General from the University of Phoenix between 2015 and 2017. Finally, in 2020, Tumminelli briefly attended the University of Louisville, studying Criminal Justice/Police Science.
