Burnett Rooks' work experience began in 1979 when they started working as a Teacher/Coach at Glynn County Board of Education. In this role, they served as the Health and Physical Education department head and Head Boys and Girls Tennis/Cross Country Coach. Burnett continued in this position until the present time. Additionally, Rooks briefly worked at Georgia Department of Technical & Adult Education in 1979, but it was an error as they never taught there. In 1991, they joined Sea Island Company as a Fitness Trainer and remained in this role until 2004.
Burnett Rooks earned a Master's in Education with a specialization in Health and Physical Education/Fitness from Armstrong State University from 1986 to 1988. Prior to that, between 1975 and 1979, Burnett Rooks attended Savannah State University and Armstrong State Atlantic University, focusing on Health and Physical Education/Fitness, but did not complete a degree during that period.
