Alexander Cohen

Technical Consultant at ClearCam

Alexander Cohen has a diverse work experience that spans several companies and research labs. Alexander is currently employed at Apollo Endosurgery as an R&D Engineer, a position they started in 2022. Prior to that, they worked at ClearCam Inc. as a Product Engineer starting in 2020. Before joining ClearCam Inc., they were a Researcher at The University of Texas at Austin in the Advanced Robotic Technologies for Surgery (ARTS) Lab. In this role, they worked on the development of variable stiffness robotics manipulators and led the lab's da Vinci Research Kit project. Alexander also collaborated with ClearCam Inc., a local medical device startup.

Before their time at The University of Texas, Alexander worked as a Researcher at The Johns Hopkins University. In the Biomechanical and Image-Guided Surgical Systems (BIGGS) Lab, they focused on the invention and design of stiffness-tuned robotic manipulators for surgical applications. Alexander also conducted research in the Laboratory for Experimental Fluid Dynamics, where they processed high-speed image data and designed testing apparatus for the university's wind-wave tank facility.

Alexander's early work experience includes an internship at Cognex, where they worked with the Manufacturing and Test group on high-speed machine vision products. Alexander redesigned test equipment to improve calibration and testing efficiency using SolidWorks.

Alexander Cohen received their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in 2018. Alexander then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Engineering in Robotics at the same university from 2018 to 2019.
