Tony Wagner is an Executive Vice President and the COO for Finance and Operations for Clemson University. He is responsible for the leadership and management of the University’s finance, facilities, maintenance, procurement, environmental safety, enterprise risk management, and human resources departments. He plays a vital role in the university strategic planning and implementation of the school’s 10-year plan. As EVP he is also an advisor to the President on financial strategy and resource development and is responsible for assessment, accountability, and management of the University’s financial resources. Wagner works closely with the Executive Leadership Team to develop long-range financial plans and strategies to support the University’s vision and goals. A native of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, Wagner earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Penn State and his master’s degree in educational leadership and policy from Temple University. Wagner brings two decades of higher education experience to this role. Wagner spent nearly a decade at Penn State University, working in government relations and finance-related roles from 1995 to 2005. Wagner also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Temple University from 2007-2013 where he oversaw the financing of more than $1 billion in university capital projects. Prior to joining Clemson, he played a leading role at Augusta University by ensuring the successful launch of the recently merged university, formed in 2013, with the combination of the former Medical College of Georgia and Augusta State University. In addition to his higher education experience, Wagner served as deputy secretary of the budget in 2003-2004 and deputy state treasurer and acting state treasurer from 2005 to 2007 for the State of Pennsylvania.
