Chief Scientific Officer & Chief Investment Officer at Climate Alpha

Michael Ferrari has a diverse and extensive work experience in the fields of climate, data science, and innovation. Michael is currently the Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Investment Officer at Climate Alpha, a position they started in October 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Fellow at The Wharton School starting in July 2015. Michael also founded and served as the Managing Partner of Atlas Research Innovations, providing scientific research and analysis to clients across various sectors. From June 2021 to January 2023, Ferrari held the position of Chief Science Officer and Chief Data Scientist at Engine No. 1. Before that, they served as the Global Head of Climate and Agronomic Decision Sciences at Syngenta from January 2020 to June 2021. Michael also has experience in the investment sector, working as the Director of Market Intelligence and Data Science, Portfolio Investment Strategist at Point72 from June 2017 to January 2020. Additionally, Ferrari has worked as an Affiliate Research Scientist at NCAR - The National Center for Atmospheric Research and as a Science Advisor and Affiliate Research Scientist at MIT Media Lab. Michael served as the VP/Head of AI and Data Science at IBM from March 2016 to June 2017, where they launched the Watson/TWC data science unit and represented IBM on various issues. Before that, they held the position of VP - Commodity Risk Analytics and Senior Climate Scientist/Biophysicist at aWhere, Inc., where they led data science efforts in sustainable agriculture and commodity risk management. Through their various roles, Ferrari has demonstrated expertise in climate science, data analytics, investment strategies, and innovation.

Michael Ferrari has a strong educational background in mathematics and climate/biophysical/fluid dynamics. Michael completed their Postdoctoral Research at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies/Rutgers, where they focused on applied mathematics in relation to climate, biophysical, and fluid dynamics. Prior to that, they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Science (MS) degrees from Rutgers University. Michael'sBachelor of Science (BS) degree was obtained from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Michael Ferrari has also pursued certifications in relevant fields. Michael obtained a certification in "Customer Analytics for Growth Using Machine Learning, AI, and Big Data" from The Wharton School in November 2019. Furthermore, they hold a certification in "Mountaineering Meteorology" from Mount Washington Observatory, which they obtained in March 2005.
