Emily Pinckney has a diverse range of work experience in the environmental and climate activism field. They have served as a Special Project Coordinator at Climate Solutions, where they coordinate the Breaking Barriers Collaborative to support businesses in transitioning to a net-zero economy. They also work as a Board Member at both Care About Climate and the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.
In addition, Emily has served as a Commissioner at the Sustainable Tacoma Commission from 2018 to 2022 and as the Executive Director at 500 Women Scientists, where they oversaw compliance activities, program development and evaluation, and formed strategic partnerships.
Furthermore, they have worked as the Youth Volunteer Coordinator, Conservation Leadership Manager, and DEAI Strategist at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. They have also served as the Chief of Staff at FMS Global Strategies, a lobbying and strategic planning firm.
Emily's experience also includes being a member and co-chair of the Community Engagement Subcommittee for the Environmental Justice Task Force at the Washington State Department of Health. They have also worked as a Community Outreach Educator and Connections Program Manager at the Seattle Aquarium.
Lastly, Emily's work experience includes being a Steering Committee Member and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leader at the Puyallup Watershed Initiative, where they promoted environmental education and awareness through community events and outreach.
Emily Pinckney (She/They) obtained a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and Conservation from Cal Poly Humboldt from 2011 to 2015. In 2013, they also attended Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment for a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and Conservation. Emily also pursued additional research opportunities, including a Paid Research Undergraduate Fellowship in Urban Freshwater Biology and Limnology at Fordham University in 2015. Furthermore, they participated in a Paid Research Undergraduate Fellowship with UTMSI in Tropical Marine Ecology at The University of Texas at Austin in 2013. Additionally, Emily has obtained a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training Certification from the City of Tacoma. The specific month of certification attainment is not provided, but it was obtained in 2021.
