Michael Newman

VP, Engineering at CodeSignal

Michael Newman is the current VP of Engineering at CodeSignal. Michael has over eight years of experience in the software development industry, including stints at Genesys and Epic. At Genesys, they built the framework for an administrative/support portal as a modular Ember Engine, using Ember.js. Michael also wrote and maintained an open-source data table library for Ember (fixtable-ember). Newman wrote a WebRTC library for Android using XMPP and Jingle, supporting both 1-to-1 and conference video and audio calls.

At Epic, Newman led a team of software developers in creating essential clinical documentation tools in Epic's Hyperspace-Web framework (based on C#, ASP.NET, and JavaScript). Michael worked closely with UX designers, QA, and clinicians to create and maintain a high-quality product, part of a core inpatient system used in hospitals throughout the world. Newman identified and fixed important issues in existing versions of Epic's software, including some with critical patient safety implications. Michael helped doctors and nurses troubleshoot and optimize their use of the Flowsheets and Input/Output products, including onsite visits to hospitals. Newman pushed for greater emphasis on unit testing and code complexity analysis by the team, resulting in increased test coverage and fewer regressions. Michael screened candidates, reviewed their code, and mentored/managed multiple interns in addition to their full-time team members.

Michael Newman attended Princeton University, where they studied computer science. Michael then went on to earn certifications from CodeSignal in JavaScript and General Coding, as well as from Pluralsight in Clean Code: Writing Code for Humans and Date and Time Fundamentals.

They are on a team with and Frank Lamprea - VP, Sales Engineering. Michael Newman reports to Aram Shatakhtsyan, Co-Founder & CTO.
